Coverage auto detailing businesses carry
Detailing looks gentler than mechanical work and carries the same core problem: you are working on somebody else's vehicle, often at their home or office. Chemicals, machine polishers and customer vehicles all sit inside one small operation.
General Liability
Injury to customers and third parties, and damage to property around the vehicle you are working on.
Mobile detailing means working on driveways and in parking lots, so the property you can damage extends well past the car. That is the everyday claim in this trade.
Garage Liability & Garagekeepers
Customer vehicles damaged, stolen, or destroyed while in your care, custody, or control.
A holograms-and-burn-through claim from a rotary polisher is damage to property in your care, which general liability excludes outright. This is the cover for it.
Commercial Auto
Your van or mobile rig, and any customer vehicle you drive, liability, collision, and hired or non-owned autos.
Moving a customer's car even a few feet is driving a vehicle you do not own. Collecting and delivering makes that a daily exposure rather than an occasional one.
Tools & Equipment
Polishers, extractors, pressure washers, and steam units stolen from the van or damaged on site.
A mobile rig is the whole business in one vehicle. Water tanks, generators and extractors should be scheduled. A blanket limit rarely covers a full rig replacement.
Business Owner's Policy (BOP)
Bundles general liability and property for a fixed detailing bay or shop unit.
Cheapest route to satisfying a lease once you take a unit. Add the garagekeepers piece separately. A BOP will not cover customer vehicles on its own.
FAQFrequently Asked Questions
Yes. A personal auto policy typically excludes business use, and mobile detailers also need liability and garagekeepers coverage for the vehicles they work on at each stop, not just the van itself.
Garagekeepers coverage responds to damage to a vehicle while it's in your care, custody, or control, which is exactly the situation during a paint correction or coating job.
Inland marine covers mobile equipment while it's being transported or used at a job site, which standard property coverage, built around a fixed location, typically excludes.
No: detailing's core exposures are garagekeepers, general liability, and commercial auto. We'll build a program sized to whether you're mobile, shop-based, or both.
